Foraging Walk & Wild Foods Experience

Join Chick of the Woods for a fun and beginner-friendly introduction to the world of foraging at the beautiful White Pine Berry Farm! Whether you’ve always been curious about wild foods or are just getting started, this class is designed to help you feel comfortable exploring nature with confidence.
We’ll begin with a one-hour introduction to safe and responsible foraging, focusing on wild mushrooms. You’ll see fresh, in-season mushrooms up close, learning how to recognize them before we head into the woods.
Next, we’ll enjoy a small tasting of wild mushroom treats such as mushroom jerky, pickled mushrooms, or mushroom candy (depending on availability) along with a sampling of White Pine Berry Farm’s handcrafted fruit shrubs. These and other delicious treats will be available for purchase in the farm store.
Afterward, we’ll explore the farm grounds and forest on a group foraging walk. We’ll search for and discuss edible and poisonous plants, berries, nuts, and mushrooms we see along the way. We’ll start together as a group and set aside time to split up and search for wild mushrooms in the forest. Wild mushrooms are never guaranteed, but any edible plants or mushrooms we find are yours to keep.

No experience is necessary, just bring your curiosity! My goal is to help you see the woods in a whole new way and give you the confidence to begin exploring on your own. You may never look at a walk in the woods the same way again.
